HELL SHIP - THE JOURNEY OF THE TICONDEROGA

Performed by Michael Veitch Co-Written with Peter Houghton

A sea voyage | A tragedy | A love story

How can we help? We thought it was a good time to reach out and see how the venues presenting Hell Ship - the Journey of the Ticonderoga are going and ask if we can be of any assistance. So, here we go ...

SOCIAL MEDIA

The Hell Ship FACEBOOK page is up and being populated. Please keep an eye on it for information pertaining to your venue, let us know if you have something we can cross-promote and feel free to share anything we've placed on the page - we'd love that! If you've received an event hosting request, we'd really appreciate that being accepted too. Help spread the word on all of our channels.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR LISTING

We've listed the tour on our website: www.hellshipticonderoga.com/shows  so it would be a huge help if you could double check that we've actually copied your information over correctly. The shows that we've found listed as 'live and bookable' we've linked across, and the others we've simply said 'booking soon'. Please let us know if there are changes to be made or preferred links to use.

Radio interviews, newspaper articles or hosting a book signing or opening - let's chat!

A FEW POINTS THAT MAY ASSIST WITH YOUR MARKETING AND ENGAGEMENT PLANS:

  • Michael's book, Hell Ship - the Journey of the Ticonderoga is being released by Allen & Unwin in August 2018. This means if you'd like to schedule a post-show book signing we'd be very happy to organise. When Michael toured FLAK this often went for as long, if not longer, than the actual performance.
  • Thomas Veitch, Michael's son, is currently compiling and composing music inspired by the story, some of which will be used in the play. This will be available to purchase post-show. This really is a family story!
  • Workshops and available talks are listed below. We have a two-tier system to delivery - a 1 hour presentation or a 3 hour workshop

WORKSHOPS & INTERACTIONS

Michael Veitch is an actor, writer, media figure and producer. He has had many years experience as an arts journalist and interviewer for Sunday Arts on ABC TV and mainstream radio broadcasting.

If you simply want a one hour talk and it fits neatly into our tour schedule we're happy to offer this as marketing assistance. If you want to offer a bit more, Michael's workshops are both interactive and collaborative. They've been very well received at Writers Festivals and for community groups. If you'd like the 3 hour workshop we simply need to discuss schedules.

We always suggest, where possible, to deliver these prior to the performance.

1. FIND THE STORY IN YOUR HISTORIC FACTS - EVERY FAMILY HAS A STORY TO SHARE

Are you one of the many people out there doing an extraordinary job as the family or community researcher, but are now finding that the 'story' eludes you? The re-telling of facts in a way that excites an audience can be a daunting task. Don't worry, this is a regularly occurring issue and one Michael Veitch can assist you with.

The facts in themselves, whilst startling, are often not a compelling story until woven into a form. It takes a certain visual storytelling method to flesh out the bones into a full and rich tale that others can enjoy.

Bring your story ideas - listen to tips and techniques. If you're doing a workshop you'll have the opportunity to put some of the learning into practice under the watchful (and helpful) eye of Michael himself.

Cost:
1 hour - includes 20mins of 'tea and talk' to be supplied by venue: FREE (If the proposed time can be included in our touring schedule)

3 hour workshop - includes a 20 min tea break to be supplied by venue: $400

2. THE IMPORTANCE OF LISTENING. INTERVIEW TECHNIQUES TO HEAR A STORY - NOT ASSUME ONE

Listening is a dying art. We hear and get ready to respond - but do we listen? Micheal has authored three books plus written and performed a nationally toured play, FLAK, and to do this he interviewed over 150 WW2 airmen. For Hell Ship it's been a case of interviewing descendants of the Ticonderoga and those affected by her saga.

We can often want or assume a particular outcome, but what if that means losing the gem of the story? What do we do if our subject actually doesn't want to talk? Real life is often more than we can imagine, but we need to listen to catch it.

Michael will share his tips and ideas on how to get the best out of your interviewees. Great for students, journalists, historians and writers.

Cost:
1 hour - includes 20mins of 'tea and talk' to be supplied by venue: FREE (If the proposed time can be included in our touring schedule)

3 hour workshop - includes a 20 min tea break to be supplied by venue: $400
